Buy My Dress 2013: Lucy Loves Buy My Dress 2013
Lucy Kennedy and friends launch Ireland’s most fashionable fundraiser!
TV presenter, Lucy Kennedy today (09.05.12) received a little help from her friends, to launch Down Syndrome Centre’s Buy My Dress campaign, supported by Kellogg’s Special K. Now in its fifth year, Buy My Dress invites women of all ages to dig out once-loved and lightly worn dresses from their wardrobes and donate to the one day, pop-up sales taking place around the country on Sunday 26th May, in aid of the Down Syndrome Centre. Buy My Dress sales will be located in the RDS in Dublin, Waterford, Wexford, Cork and Galway with the average price range from just €10 - €50.
Funds raised from this year’s Buy My Dress, sponsored by Kellogg’s Special K, will go towards a new centre which will provide much needed facilities and support for children born with Down Syndrome and their families. Speaking at the launch, Sharon Dagg, CEO of Down Syndrome Centre said; “Down Syndrome Centre has recently secured a new site and is actively working towards the development and infrastructure of the new centre, which will provide a variety of services and facilities as well as seminars, workshops and eventually daily respite for those with Down Syndrome and their families. Developing and running the facility will require a huge influx in funds and therefore we really do appreciate the generous sponsorship from Kellogg's Special K and the tremendous support from our volunteers around the country, who give so much time and energy into making this event the success it has become.”
Visitors to this years’ sales can expect a fantastic range of high-street and designer dresses including a number of items donated by celebrities such as Amy Huberman, Yvonne Keating, Lisa Fitzpatrick, Lorraine Keane, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Erin O’Connor. The 2013 Buy My Dress events will include something for everyone, including debs dresses, evening gowns and casual day wear. Guests will also be treated to a welcoming glass of Prosecco on arrival and a variety of stands to browse around during the course of the day.
With the help of teams of volunteers who will organise each county event, the Down Syndrome Centre hopes to sell 10,000 dresses in 2013 and is calling on women nationwide to donate a dress over coming weeks. Dresses can be donated at drop-off points in selected A|Wear stores, Unislim classes and Carraig Donn stores until the end of May.
Donna Byrne, Kellogg’s Special K Brand Manager said; “Over the years, we have seen the amazing work that the Down Syndrome Centre carries out and we are delighted that Kellogg’s Special K is able to provide continuing support to an initiative as worthwhile as Buy My Dress. Buy My Dress provides Irish women with an excellent opportunity to get their hands on high-street and designer dresses at a fraction of the original price, while helping a fantastic cause. I would urge every Irish woman to get herself down to her local Buy My Dress event on the 26th May!”
Buy My Dress events will take place around the country from 11.00am to 5.00pm on Sunday 26th May. Visit www.buymydress.ie to find the event closest to you.
